iansyst awarded contract to help 12,000 disabled children
The Home Access programme has been a runaway success, however it operated within a limited budget and time frame and is now closed.
The programme has been incredibly successful, with more than 250,000 families now benefiting from increased access to technology at home to improve learning. More than 8,000 children with profound disabilities, special educational needs or who face challenges accessing computers and the internet are also reaping the benefits of bespoke technology to meet their individual needs, which has enabled them to be brought not only online, but in line with their peers.
The Department for Education (DfE) now leads the programme. They can be contacted through the Contact Us section of the DfE web site.
Cambridgeshire technology specialist iansyst Ltd has been awarded a top government contract to help 12,000 children with severe disabilities or special educational needs to get online for learning at home in England.
The Government’s Home Access programme will see 7 to 14 year-olds with severe disabilities or Special Educational Needs from low-income families receive a computer and internet package with additional hardware or software to help them use a computer and the internet at home.
As the first national programme to provide assistive technology (AT) in the home, Home Access marks a significant step towards achieving widespread digital inclusion. In support of this vision, iansyst will deliver bespoke AT packages in partnership with education experts XMA Ltd. Home Access computer packages with Assistive Technology have limited availability and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Families of children with severe disabilities or special educational needs should call the helpline 0333 200 1004 and find out if they are eligible for the programme.
Ian Litterick, Executive Chairman at iansyst, comments “To improve learning and help enhance digital inclusion, it is essential that learners with disabilities have equal access to ICT at home. The Home Access programme is arguably the largest procurement of assistive technology anywhere in the world and we are extremely proud to deliver this.”
